? Youth in all the communities will be involved in leading the implementation of the project. For example youths in YOLO will be part of the installation of the solar panels and well as monitoring to ensure sustainability of the project. The coordinators of the sewing machines which will be installed in all the communities will be youth LED.
? Youth in all the target communities will also be involved as direct beneficiaries. For examples, Youth in communities of Yolo will constantly have solar light to study and do assignments at home, charge phones to connect and communicate with other youth beyond their communities. Youth will also benefits from the face marks provided by the project.
In a typical indigenous Mbororo community, men are main decision makers and influences all activities in the community while women are more of observers of development rather than actors of development.
Thus creating an imbalance of influence in the community between men and women.
To address this, the project will sensitized men on the importance of women active participations in decision making in family and community issues.
We shall make sure there is a gender balance when chosen communities members to be involved in the leadership and implementation of the project.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Over 50 women in Dedango will be trained on milk transformation. The women will also gain skills in marketing and access to new markets. This will improve the income generation capability of the women.
Sewing Machines will be installed for women in Didango, Yolo and Botombo. The women will be using the sewing machine for the production of face marks both for community use and for sale to other communities in need.
The installation of the solar refrigerator in Yolo community will enable women to preserved dairy products, reduce waste and makes more sales. This will also increase yield and the income of the women.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Print Media
Banners, Role ups, Posters and stickers will be designed and printed for use throughout the implementation of projects. For examples posters on sanitization of COVID-19 will be pasted at strategic points like Mosque and door post.
Social Media
We shall leverage social media channels like Facebook, YouTube Twitter and WhatsApp to share our project activities and impact stories to a wider audience.
Population National TV Channels.
We also plan to invite some of the most popular TV channels like Equinox and My Media Prime to cover our project activities and broadcast.
Visibility and communication:
We shall print 100 T-shirts and 50 caps carrying project information. These caps and T-shirt will be distributed to in communities.
Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
This project initially was designed to target the indigenous women in communities of Didango, Yolo and Bomtombo. We have also put in place the following mechanisms to ensure full participation of every one within the communities.
Fulfulde will be use throughout the project implementation in all activities like training, discussions, sensitizing and interviewing. There will be translation in case the resource persons involved in any activity is not familiar with Fulfulde language.
Inovative Financial Mechanisms
We shall open a Project logbook to document all project activities and lessons learned as well as best practices.
We shall be particularly keen to developing knowledge on how Solar panel can be better manage for as long as over 5 years.
Lessons learned and best practices will be shared with the Funder and other collaborating organizations.
Project Results
*Community visit (mobilization)/consultation.
Three (03) communities of Didango, Yolo, and Botombo were visited to lay down action plan for a smooth project implementation process. During these meetings, the main participants were community leaders, women, men, girls and people with disabilities.
In Didango in the west region of Cameroon during the consultation process, a total of twenty (20) women and (40) men were present to decide on the project activities and various sites within the community each activity will be carried out. The activity plan was presented to the community with activities such as milk transformation into dairy products, milk preservation techniques, identification of new markets and sensitization on Covid-19 measures. They now know the symptoms of covid-19, and preventive measures, they are able to use produce face and take care of reusable face masks produced within the community.
Yolo in the West region was equally visited by the team to present the action plan the activities ranging from solar energy installation where trainees were identified, Covid-19 trainings and the use of portable solar devices was presented to the entire community and Botombo in the center region as well where the use of clay energy saving oven was and the effect of deforestation presented to the community. In total over one hundred and eighty-two (182) people gathered within three communities of Yolo, Botombo and Didango during the entire consultation process.
*Training and installation of equipment by solar energy technicians and on the importance of renewable energy solutions
Women in Yolo community in the west region of Cameroon were trained on photovoltaic solar energy installation and maintenance which gave them the opportunity to acquire new skills in renewable energy technology for community development. twenty-five (25) men, forty-two (42) women and thirty-two (32) youth are able to take part in solar power installation with eight (08) homes electrified using solar energy installation which has permitted the community improve on living standards socio economically. During this training program, the trainees acquired new skills in solar energy installation, maintenance, follow up and the use of portable solar energy devices, the practical part of the session focused on strategic areas within the community such as three (03) mosques, three (03) koranic schools, two palaces and community halls which are serve as a training centres and storage units for fresh milk and dairy products. Present the solar energy installations power plans are serving the population of yolo tremendously with over eighty (80) direct beneficiaries and over two hundred and thirteen (213) indirect beneficiaries ranging from people who congregate during prayer in mosques, over a hundred children who study at night both in koranic schools and western education leading to an improvement in school performance amongst children.
*Training session on transformation of milk to dairy products, preservation and marketing techniques
Women in Didango were trained on milk transformation into dairy products as one of the main sources of income to this community where women generate income from the sale of fresh milk. Modules such as hygiene and sanitation, milk quality control, yoghurt pasteurization and bottling were some of the module thought theoretically as well as practically. over six (60) women are able to transform milk into dairy products and distribute to urban markets in the nearby towns leading to an increase in income levels among indigenous women in Didango, increase in living conditions and a decline on dependency ration in their husbands for basic needs
*Training on marketing techniques and sources of new markets
This activity trained Over fifty (80) women in effective local marketing strategies in order to increase their customer growth in milk production. Four (4) training modules/Sessions were conducted such as peer to peer marketing strategies, personal branding and packaging, leveraging community group, branding.
Over 80 indigenous Mbororo women have acquired practical knowledge/skills on effective local marketing strategies. This is helping these women attract more customers for their products, gain new markets, and make more sales/profits for their dairy products.
*Train them in basic accounting, management, booking and micro credit schemes for self-help.
The purpose of this training is to help the indigenous women of Didango to be able to keep statistics of milk collection, production, sales of products, to resolve their net income and to keep record of visitors to their cooperative. This training which brought together sixty two (62) women has help them know their profits, monitor their business to see if its booming or falling, the trainees, are be able to know how to keep statistics of milk collection, dairy production of their products and to interpret these statistics for the benefit of their cooperative. They are now able to know their net income. This has help them plan ahead of time so as to access new markets thus favoring sustainability and increasing their income.
*Train the women on the identification of new markets.
Indigenous women in Didango were thought on the identification of new market techniques to them the boost their sales and increase per capital income sixty-seven (67) women were empowered with skills in the identification of new markets to ensure sustainability, increase their income and financial independence with modules such a peer to peer marketing, suppling in bulk, meeting shop owners and network marketing skills. This has help to a drop in domestic violence as these women are becoming less ideal and financially stable.
*Train both men and women on the building of energy-saving ovens Botombo
Seventy (70) women and twenty eight (28) men within the community of Botombo in the center region are able to build and maintain clay energy saving ovens with the community which are one of the best known cooking means presently used by these indigenous women, Two (02) clay energy saving ovens were built as a demonstration to train the community which has given rise to new cooking ideology compared to the past where deforestation was the order of day as huge quantity of firewood was often needed for cooking. With this clay saving ovens in Botombo, many households now own such ovens from individual efforts leading to a reduction in the use of firewood, a decline in carbon emission and well as financial burden.
*Organize educative talks on the negative impact of deforestation and carbon dioxide emissions.
A training program was organized in Botombo on deforestation which brought twenty two men twenty (76) men, forty eighty (48) women and twenty six (150) youth together to share ideas on the negative impacts of deforestation described as the action of clearing a wide area of trees leading to decrease in forest areas across the world for agricultural lands, urbanization, or mining activities greatly accelerated by human activities since 1960, they were also trained on how deforestation has been negatively affecting natural ecosystems, biodiversity and the climate and training on modern methods survival through the use of clay energy saving oven which are environmentally friendly.
*Sensitization of Botombo/Didango/Yolo IP community on COVID-19 pandemic
Through sensitization meetings organised within the indigenous communities of Didango,Yolo and Botombo, there has been much clarification on covid-19 and many questions about Covid-19 which were not taken serious as a result of lack of information following the world health organisation preventive guide lines which are now clear to the indigenous population of these communities such as how to prevent the spread of Covid-19,how Covid-19 attacks, and its various symptom, how to use personal protective equipment such as face masks, hand sanitizers and how to keep social distances in school, during prayers at mosques and in all other public places
03 sensitization meetings held, 01 audio in the local language produced, and 200 sensitization posters prepared.500 men, 1000 youth, and 1100women sensitized directly and indirectly. Provision of hygiene and sanitary kits to support Botombo/Didango/Yolo IP communities in prevention of COVID-19
The communities of Yolo, Botombo and Didango are able to produce over two hundred (200) face masks for community use in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19 pandemic within these indigenous communities. Other equipment received by these communities include buckets, soap, and hand sanitizers which is currently serving the communities in private homes as well as community places such as schools, mosques and palaces in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic. Twenty six (26) indigenous communities benefited from the personal protective equipment ranging from sewing machines and accessories to produce face mask within communities with over four hundred (400) beneficiaries on Covid-19 prevention measures.
