1. Center for Strategic Environmental Research and Aerospace Monitoring established with the support of the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine, State Ecological Academy of Postgraduate Education and Management and National Space Facilities Control and Test Center of the State Space Agency of Ukraine; a Memorandum on its establishment signed on December 2, 2020.
2. A pilot project on the use of ERS data to monitor and analyze condition of environment for making management decisions by officials of local self-government bodies implemented, and Space monitoring cluster "Polissya" established as a platform for uniting efforts of specialists of the Zhytomyr Oblast State Administration and Zhytomyr Oblast Council, scientists of the Polissya National University and State Ecological Academy of Postgraduate Education and Management, National Space Facilities Control and Test Center of the State Space Agency of Ukraine, Zhytomyr Military Institute named after Serhiy Korolyov, Andrushivka astronomical observatory and a pilot Secondary school No. 8 of Zhytomyr city. In the framework of the cluster and implementation of the pilot project, cooperation was focused on establishment of a regional information support and monitoring system for constructing a new model of regional management based on the use of space monitoring and geoinformation systems at the local level, taking the cases of Kamianske and Zhovti Vody towns as an example for further replication in Zhytomyr oblast.
3. The content of 5 training modules elaborated and tested: Module 1 ? Using ERS data for environmental monitoring of territories; Module 2 ? Presentation of spatial information; Module 3 ? Using GIS in the sites of the National Reserve Fund (NRF); Module 4 ? Using GIS to elaborate a local program for development of territories; Module 5 ? Using geoinformation technologies for environmental control.
4. After conducting trainings for various categories of trainees (representatives of local authorities and the community, employees of the NRF sites, state environmental inspectors, and civil society representatives) and testing training modules, Training program for the course on using and implementing GIS for sustainable development of territories and ensuring local communities? environmental safety and relevant methodological materials, developed and approved by the Academic Council of the State Ecological Academy of Postgraduate Education and Management on March 16, 2021.
5. 6 training courses on using GIS for sustainable development of territories and ensuring local communities? environmental safety conducted, attended by 323 participants, including 164 participants in online format due to the COVID-19 pandemic (66 representatives of local self-government bodies, 37 environmental inspectors, 220 representatives of the NRF sites, which cooperate with communities). In addition, on the base of Eco-Development Center of the Polissya National University, established through the UNDP-GEF SGP support, practical classes on using GIS technologies in environmental monitoring system conducted for 47 young people.
6. 300 copies of the brochure on using GIS technologies in environmental management, 300 copies of training methodology recommendations on geoinformation techniques for processing of information, and materials of the National scientific and practical conference ?The European Green Deal and Ukraine?s Water Policy in the Context of Global Climate Change? printed.
