Innovative agro-ecological solutions for sustainable agriculture and land rehabilitation on Polissya landscape
The project is aimed at introduction of industrial organic technologies for growing medicinal and niche crops on Polissya landscape. The task is to test, improve and promote effective eco-technologies for growing medicinal and niche crops, namely milk thistle, black cumin, amaranth and millet, on low-productive and degraded soils of Polissya region. Another project component will increase environmental awareness, literacy and culture of local community representatives and youth from rural areas, in particular children with disabilities. The project will conduct a series of public events: workshops, open seminars and knowledge fairs, and ensure wide media coverage. Strong and diverse partnerships with educational institutions, local authorities, CSOs and farmers? union will support project effectiveness and sustainability.

Project Characteristics and Results
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Environmental awareness raising activities regarding the introduction of eco-technologies and building the capacity of rural youth, particularly in the context of social inclusion, of the community and commodity producers of various forms of ownership with the aim of reducing land degradation in Zhytomyr Polissya involved about 800 community representatives through their participation in 8 scientific-practical conferences, 1 seminar, 1 environmental event on tree planting, 2 eco-games, 2 ecological contests, 1 joint project with the "School of Social Leadership", 4 broadcasts of the Ukrainian radio "Zhytomyrska Khvylia" and the Soyuz-TV channel | Zhytomyr, 3 ?Field Days? for the community, and preparation of 2 newspaper publications.
Notable Community Participation
In order to overcome effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the project involved more than 500 pupils, students, graduate students, as well as 90 children with special educational needs, who directly participated in and got acquainted with the technological process and the cycle of growing medicinal and niche crops. Also, the products grown ? medicinal herbs, in the form of herbal teas ? medicinal chamomile, calendula, lemon balm etc., were used for consumption by pupils, students and children of the boarding school themselves to boost their own immunity for fighting diseases.
