The use of sound environmental and business principles in growing and processing cassava in the Small Island Developing State of Saint Lucia.
This project will integrate GAP measures into the sustainable management of lands to produce cassava which will form the input for an agro-processing facility. The project objectives are: (i) To adopt and implement Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) in cassava production; (ii) to design and implement an efficient harvesting and collection system to meet the processing demands of the plant; (iii) to design and retrofit a building to meet the Bureau of Standards specifications within which the processing takes place; (iv) to train at least fifteen persons to function efficiently in the areas of planning, harvesting, agro-processing and marketing; and (v) to design and implement marketing strategies by using the various advertising mediums to increase market sales.
