No, at the meantime, there is no intention to scale up the project using non-GEF grants.
The communication strategy of the project is especially encompassing the following components:
1. Awareness Training by the Solid Waste Agency of Tuvalu (SWAT)'s to Vaitupu Women's Association in order for the Association to be aware of how to rubbish could be usefully reused and/or disposed safely into the correct bins;
2. Training on the spot on the use of the mat trolley is conducted by the project coordinator to women of the Vaitupu Association.
3. Reporting back to the TANGO management and FYD office about the progress of the project;
4. Following up with the attempts to compete the project activities with the assistance of FYD and TANGO.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
The one socio-economic or alternative livelihood activities that will be carried out during the project was the involvement of the grantee in communal activities such as keeping and storing of food that belong to the community in refrigerator that will be procured by the project as well as cooking of food in preparation for the community that is the sole responsibility of this women group. The equipment that will be procured by the project will lessen the impacts of illness that women may be able to catch from the hard loads of work endowed on them as part of the communal responsibility.
Project sustainability
The organization will try its very best to keep its project running and sustainable in the long run.
Replication of project activities
The project is simple to be replicated and yet the parts on the procuring of kitchenware cannot be replicated a GEF-SGP are cautious in entertaining such properties which do little work on the adaptation to climate change. Only the waste management part (procuring of rubbish bins and a cage) as these do directly relate to the adaptation to climate change.
Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
The use of indigenous people in the past include the use of the Funafuti indigenous land owners in respect to their lands that need for the location and establishment of the Vaitupu Island Community Hall on Funafuti. As the Vaitupu Island People do not have lands on Funafuti, they will have to approach landowners of Funafuti to give them landspots for the establishment of their community hall.
In knowing that the hall was accepted by landowners of Funafuti, the Vaitupu Women Association on Funafuti are confident that the same indigenous group could make available some spots for the location of rubbish bins' stand in which is a requirement of the project.
Inovative Financial Mechanisms
The way the project will capture its activities and performances is through the project coordinator and members of the board whereby they will take camera shots of those activities. They will then submit those captures in a reporting format that will inform the Tuvalu NSC about their performances.
Planning gef grant
There is no intention to scale up this piece of project.
Linkages gef projects
There is no linkage of this project to large GEF projects.
Policy Influence
There is no planned influence on policy relations.
Policy Impact
There is no specific plan of the project to produce policy impact. However, the project seeks to engage women of the Vaitupu Island community on Funafuti to keep their community hall's surrounding clean. It is therefore important to keep in mind the importance of members of the association with its key role on keeping the hall's surrounding neat and clean.
Capacity - Building Component
There is not much capacity building needed by the grantees apart from the training done by the Solid Waste Agency of Tuvalu to the women in relation to the management of waste and the types of disposal involved in this project. This is the only training needed by the grantee.
Gender Focus
Women main role in the community was to keep and store communal food in refrigerator and cooking of food, as well as setting up the tables for communal meals within the vicinity of the Vaitupu Island Community's Hall. In this respect, women are responsible for the preparing and cleaning of eating utensils, folding of mats, and sweeping of the hall's floor after each communal event at the Hall.
As with most island communities here in Tuvalu, women have that kind of role, and men are much more into the making of decisions, And this is culturally acceptable.
Notable Community Participation
Women of Vaitupu on Funafuti do consist of old and young women of the island community. Thus the involvement of young women is confirmed within the vicinity of the project itself.
There is an indefinite number of young women involved in the project
Project Results
The main results of the project are as follow:
(i) Procurement of kitchenware (gas stove, refrigerator, washing machine, dishes, plates and a mat trolley); and
(ii) Procurement of rubbish bins and a bin cage.
