- This project seeks to empower communities living around Jokadou National Park is adopting sustainable environmental practices that enable the provision of environmental goods and services from the natural resources of the area. The project has therefore contributed directly to the protection of 15, 028 hectares of the Jokadou National Park, which has a significant impacts of the lives and livelihoods of the communties in the area.

The activities planned and completed this period and results achieved included the following:

1. Training of farmers and youths on tree nursery propagation, vegetable production and compost making in order to improve environment, generate income for smallholder farmers in the Jokadou National Park. The technique will also reduce farmers? reliance on chemical fertilizers
Ninety (90) smallholder farmers and youth have received hands-on training on tree nursery propagation and management, vegetable production and compost making for environmental conservation, regeneration and soil enhancement for increased vegetable production and income generation.

2. Support to smallholder farmers in training and provision of climate resistant crops and small ruminants
Forty-seven (47) smallholder farmers received training on various mechanisms of climate change mitigation and adaptation in order to address factors affecting our environment and livelihoods due to effects of climate change and its related consequences. This number of smallholder farmers participated in the training which built their capacities in producing more food for the increasing population. Most importantly, these farmers were exposed to the three main areas of CSA and as follows: Increasing agricultural productivity and incomes; adapting and building resilience to climate change and reducing and/or removing greenhouse gas emissions. The principal goal of Climate Smart Agriculture is identified as food security and development strategy to be adopted and applied by smallholder rural farmers. Participants have intimated that they have applied and seen the benefits of the approach which they promised to continue adopting it as part of farming system approach. A total of about 80 haectares of farmlands were put under improved management practices whivch would contribute to enhancing agricultural productivity and biodiversity conservation.

3. Production, designing, distribution and installation of visibility materials in strategic project location sites
Visibility materials are important advocacy materials that showcase the work of donor agencies and their grantee(s). The boards educate, inform and promote the goals, activities and geographic coverage of the donor in implementing a particular project. Based on this AFES has printed and installed five visibility boards in Darsilami, Barianding, Bakang, Karantaba and Tambana project sites in consultation with project beneficiary villages. The boards were designed, manufactured and printed according to dimensions supplied by the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Project.
4. Participatory Monitoring and Supervision
The staff have conducted monitoring visits and met focal persons and communities in order to get first-hand information on the status of beneficiaries and their activities. AFES is satisfied with the understanding and readiness of beneficiaries for project implementation.
5.Project Administration/Management
This activity is one of the core activities of the project. It helps staff in the overall planning, coordination and reporting of the various project activities implemented. It also identified areas for improvement for AFES staff especially for future activities.
