- The project was formally launched in the village of Kekuta Kunda located in Lower Badibou District of the North Bank Region of The Gambia. The project targets the youth who are vulnerable to exploitation as they tend to migrate to Europe through the perilous journey across the Atlantic Ocean. Such journeys are dangerous leading to loss of lives, with the village of Kekuta having more that their share of such calamities. At the launching, the project execution modalities, implementation arrangements, role of the different stakeholders including the beneficiaries - which were discussed earlier on during project formulation, were brought forward, discussed and finalised.

- Contract or the building of a wooden boat was awarded to a local supplier after invitation for bids were received and reviewed by the management of the project. The boat would be used for fishing purposes by the beneficiaries as the village is located close to the river. Fishing has been an important activity in the village for decades, but the trade has been going down due to the non participation of the youth.

- Alongside the construction of the fishing boat, fishing gears were also procured and stored. Once the boat is completed, they would be handed over to the beneficiary.

- To promote sustainable fishing practices and conserve biodiversity, a training session was organised for the youth
