Demonstration Project of Public Participating Biodiversity Conservation in High-density Urban Communities in Beijing
The project is located in Beijing. Beijing has forests, shrubs, grasses, meadows, wetlands and other types of ecosystems. The city area accounts for about 0.17% of the country's land area, and the number of plant species accounts for about 8% of the country's total. In order to protect Beijing?s solid foundation of biodiversity, Beijing?s urban management needs to strengthen protection objectives related to major native species and habitats, strengthen ecological protection, restore habitats, and attract public participation.
Main problems:
1. Insufficient public awareness, and lack of knowledge transmission and perception guidance on the biodiversity of the surrounding environment of urban daily life;
2. The existing small number of environmental protection volunteer teams lack professional support and communication platforms;
3. The local governments have the concept of ecological governance but lack technical support to implement community project samples;
4. The channels for residents' participation are not smooth, requiring multi-dimensional and multi-channel supply;
5. Extensive value advocacy is required, closely integrated with the daily lives of urban residents.
Solutions and activities:
1. Deep research and comparison: Carry out preliminary research, survey the public awareness of urban biodiversity conservation, continue to carry out observational research on the succession of urban ecological communities with the scientific research team, and monitor and evaluate the implementation effect after the project is implemented;
2. Creat spaces: build community small and micro-ecological demonstration bases, maintain and manage local community greening, use comprehensive means to increase the overall biodiversity of the community, and help grassroots governments implement the concrete implementation of ecological civilization in the new era of civilization practice governance concepts;
3. Curriculum activities: the exploration and education of the community environment that reflects the characteristics of science and technology and combines online and offline;
4. Community mobilization: Establish a team of community volunteers, enhance the environmental protection awareness of community residents, and provide technical training for community children and core social workers;
5. Popularization of science: building an eco-community green life experience display, becoming a part of grassroots popularization of science, providing residents with publicity and experience demonstrations that are closely related to daily life;
6. Summary and promotion: the establishment of a sustainable community development mechanism and the summary and promotion of project models.
Anticipated results
1. Obtain the before and after comparison data of the urban biodiversity conservation public awareness survey, and supervise and evaluate the project implementation effect; cooperate with scientific research teams such as Beijing Forestry University and Beijing Academy of Environmental Sciences to observe the dynamic changes of community biodiversity. Bring advanced scientific and technological research into the application of community projects;
2. Build a community environmental education demonstration base, and carry out ecological restoration of 400 square meters of land through comprehensive measures such as garbage composting, soil restoration, enriching plant communities, and creating small-scale biological habitats;
3. Improve the existing situation of green spaces, promote roof greening, family planting and installation of ecological facilities;
4. Develop community-based online and offline environmental education platforms and courses;
5. Establish a community environmental protection volunteer team of about 50 people; establish a community self-organized and sustainable communication platform;
6. In the two communities where the project is implemented, at least 100 social workers have been trained in ecological community-related professional knowledge, which will affect their working methods and the green lifestyle of community residents;
7. Summary and promotion of the model of community public participation in biodiversity conservation;
