Demonstration Project of Sustainable Urban Community in Kunming City
The specific locations of this project are mainly located in Xishan District, Guandu District, Kunming City, etc. The three communities of Lake Dream, Yinhai Forest and Zhongtian Garden are mainly selected as sample communities. At present, the average daily garbage removal and transportation volume in Kunming can reach up to 6800-7000 tons/day, and the daily recyclable volume is about 2500 tons/day. The main problems of waste sorting and recycling in Kunming are low quality of source sorting, insufficient publicity and education, old and imperfect waste sorting and collection facilities, and imperfect policies and related regulations.
Main problems:
1. Community residents have insufficient knowledge of garbage classification and poor awareness of classified trading;
2. With the continuous expansion of living consumption, the amount of domestic waste generated is increasing rapidly, but the treatment method is still limited to random discharge or discarding, and no refined classification and recycling are carried out, resulting in the waste of a large number of reusable resources;
3. At present, the lights used in the community are basically fluorescent lamps and general energy-saving lamps, which have poor lighting effects and high power consumption.
4. One of the main problems in Kunming's garbage classification and recycling is imperfect policies and related regulations.
Activities & Solutions:
1. Improve residents' awareness and enthusiasm for waste sorting and trading
(1) Carry out community publicity activities. Through the promotion of reusable bag backpacks, garbage bags, and large-scale community publicity activities, as many residents as possible understand the importance of garbage classification, recycling and energy-saving, and reduce the use of disposable items;
(2) Carry out school publicity activities. Cooperate with local schools to carry out "big hands holding small hands" and "mother and dad volunteers" enter the campus activities to enhance the interaction between families and campuses, and better enable schools and families to establish good exchanges and communication, so as to better spread the ecology Civilization concept
2. Refine the classification of garbage to improve the utilization rate of recyclable garbage
(1) Waste sorting and replacement activities. Residents will be given financial subsidies for the sorted garbage disposal, and services such as "waste materials for daily necessities, flowers, vegetables, and car washing" will be launched. By providing high-quality services, residents will be more interactive and active in participating in garbage sorting and recycling;
(2) Selection and reward activities for excellent "garbage homes": According to the implementation of household garbage classification, select excellent "garbage homes", and give relevant families certain financial and material rewards to increase residents' participation;
(3) Fermentation of kitchen waste to produce enzyme activities. Carry out activities to produce enzymes from kitchen waste such as surplus vegetables and fruits in the community. The produced enzymes can be used for daily life needs such as washing clothes, washing dishes, and wiping floors. While reducing the living expenses of residents, they also increase residents' enthusiasm for participating in the reduction of kitchen waste. And participation;
(7) Develop a small program or APP for online ordering to provide residents with a more convenient way to place orders and improve the accuracy of residents' participation in garbage classification and recycling;
3. Energy-saving activities
(8) Energy-saving lamp replacement activities. At present, the life of incandescent lamps is 1,000 hours, the life of fluorescent lamps is 6,000 hours, and the life of LED lamps is 50000-100000 hours. Under the same brightness conditions, it is more than 80% energy-saving than incandescent lamps and 50% energy-saving than fluorescent lamps. Carry out the replacement of energy-saving lamps such as corridors, community roads and garage lighting in demonstration communities to achieve the effect of energy saving and electricity saving;
4. Summarize the project and put forward relevant policy recommendations
(1) Project mid-term meeting. One year after the project was held, a mid-term seminar was held to summarize and analyze the main achievements and shortcomings of the project;
(2) Carry out project completion evaluation activities. Invite government departments and other stakeholders to participate in the project summary seminar, summarize the project results and experience, and finally form a project summary report, and submit a policy proposal to the relevant national management department.
Anticipated results:
1. The project covers residents in the community, and develops the habit of garbage classification, recycling, energy-saving and electricity saving. The number of participating communities reaches 400, and the number of participating families reaches more than 200,000 households;
2. The participating communities recycle 20,000 tons of recyclable garbage, 7,000 tons of low-value garbage, 15 tons of hazardous garbage, and 180,000 tons of kitchen waste each year;
3. Participate in the replacement of 1200 energy-saving lamps in the community, saving 68,000 kWh of electricity every year;
4. Form relevant policy recommendations and submit them to relevant administrative departments of Kunming City Government, and submit them to provincial administrative departments through Kunming City Government.

Project Characteristics and Results
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
(1) Through the sorting and recycling of recyclable garbage, residents can obtain part of the income and increase the income of community residents;
(2) Improve the recycling rate of available domestic garbage, reduce resource waste, protect the environment, and increase the sustainable development capacity of the community;
(3) Through this project, the number of communities participating in the refined waste classification will be increased, so it is expected that 200 people will be employed.
Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
During the implementation, the participation of residents is inseparable. For example, in the process of project publicity, the role of the residents in spreading one to ten and one hundred to ten should be brought into play, so that more people can participate in the classification and recycling of domestic waste, energy saving and electricity saving. Environmental protection activities are coming.
