Kurram Plantation/Mazri Protection Project
The project mainly concerned the Mazri tree, which was identified as the main source of income for the poor farmers of the Kurram Agency. It was also claimed that the plants have a positive impact on the environment. The project aimed to prevent further damage to the plant and establish about eight sanctuaries to protect 400,000 plants in the village. The objectives of the project also included the urgent need to rehabilitate and restore the permanent source of income for the tribal people of the Kurram agency.
The activities to be conducted under the project included eight community based organizations to be established in eight villages, the establishment of partnership with the community and FATA Forestry. Furthermore, surveys were to be conducted and selection of the areas was to be undertaken in preparation of feasibility and cost estimates. Another important activity was centered on the training of the beneficiaries in planting and protecting the plants so they would be able to further the cause, and continue the practices.
