The project ?Landslide mitigation through NRM approaches, was implemented by Alfalah Welfare and Development Organization. The project planted over 30,000 saplings near the Kunar river basin in a sloppy area in Noorgal district. As the water is flowing below, a reservoir (a strong RCC structure with the height of 1060 cm, 6 m long and 3 m wide) was constructed over the top of the hill and a proper irrigation system of water pipes to reach to all areas were installed in the area. A solar water pump and panels (10 solar panels) to pump the water to the reservoir was provided and this ensured the irrigation of samplings. The awareness of more than 400 formers and community people were raised on the forestation and environmental issues.
All the field activities were carried out by the local human resources. About 200 ? 250 labors were daily working in the field periodically. Those labor had the opportunity to get the daily wage of their work in their village and they were quite happy. The hardworking of the local people and sense of responsibility compel the relevant community to spread the activity in the adjacent areas and take care of the forestry and plantations.
One of the most important objectives of the project was to provide professional and seminars and awareness to the surrounding farmers regarding importance of plantation, forestry and orchards, playing a vital role in the climate change. FAWDO planned to prepare this awareness program for farmers and they were provided with the technical seminars and awareness in 8 sessions. They were also provided with the printed materials, containing the messages of the forest importance.
