Smokeless Stoves Project
The objective of the project was aimed at reducing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions entering the atmosphere by construction of smokeless stoves and protecting biodiversity through releasing the pressure for fuel wood of waste lands amounting to a total area of 8664 acres in Tehsil Chunian and Tehsil Pattoki of District Kasur.
Two or more women from twelve villages were trained as ?Chuhla Misteries? or ?Chuhla Mechanics? in a five day workshop conducted in collaboration with FPAP-Pakistan at Changa Manga. Furthermore the local ?lohars? or blacksmiths of each village were trained in making steel material need to construct the Stove. The community was organized at a village level and orientation sessions were held to introduce the Stove in each village, installation of stoves was to have subsequently taken place.
The anticipates result was that the pressure for fuel wood will be lifted off the target waste lands by fifty percent thus conserving fifty percent biodiversity. The Smoke less Stove being fuel efficient and only utilizing fifty percent of the fuel in comparison to the amount used in open-fire cooking thus a lesser amount of smoke would be released and there would be a reduction in the amount of harmful gas emissions contributing to the greenhouse effect.
