Development of Addu Community Farm
Development of Addu Community Farm
This project mainly targets on two primary objectives.
1. Reduce land degradation due to excessive use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers and ground
water. The farmers can be advocated, trained and demonstrated with the correct and
efficient use of chemicals used in farming. The demonstrated new methods of hydroponic
greenhouse systems will promote a more sustainable agricultural method which can be
easily introduced in to Maldives.
2. Ensure food safety and security by ensuring the efficient use of chemicals and sustainably
increasing local food production. Greenhouse hydroponic systems provide support by
producing continuously in different batches and the production rate is high with low
production cost when compared to traditional farming methods.
This in whole will contribute to more income to local families, farmers and guarantees the local
food supply chain. This leads to an overall goal of reducing land degradation an ensuring food
safety security in the future.
