1. A total of 600 indigenous communities? persons were trained in watershed, natural
resources and soil management to manage their natural resources, avoid from land
degradation, soil erosion and increase vegetation and income generation opportunities
through plantation of income generation forests in their communities;
2. A total of 2,500 walnut saplings were planted in hill areas to protect soil, increase
vegetation, introduce improved and high yielding varieties and improve environment
protection. These saplings covered a total of 12 hectares land and the walnut trees will
have sustainable income for the target communities for at least 200 years from selling
the walnut yields; and
3. A total of 500m 3 check dams were constructed to avoid soil erosion, water
contamination and avoid from flooding and protect forest soil, in aims to increase
vegetation in forest areas, avoid agriculture land destruction and increase under land
water for forest.
The target communities for this grant were three villages (Sosom, Kushtaki and Dewa) in
Parun of provincial capital in Nuristan province those were affected by COVID-19 and loss
their livelihoods.
