Project ?Improve livelihoods of COVID Affected Communities through Fish Conservation in Kunar? enhanced biodiversity restoration of Trout Fish with vital support of the indigenous communities - Gujar & Sawoji, from harmful practices such as generator electricity shots, using of toxic chemicals, using of blasting materials and other practices that can lead to the depletion of the trout fish in river. For the sake of doing this OCHA established 18 councils on the bank of Dare Peaj river with 360 members consisting of 300 Youths and 60 women. The project prevented depletion of wild trout indigenous species of Kunar & Nuristan Provinces of Afghanistan with vital support of indigenous communities relying on wild trout fish for Livelihood. It also provided Socio-economic benefits to the Indigenous communities (Particularly Sawoji) in return from Fishpond and conservation of wild trout fish.

The beneficiaries also provided incentive ?cash? as a motivation for better participation in awareness raising sessions on Trout Fish values and conservation (total 360 individuals trained, 60 women and 300 youths) and benefited with provision of Labor working opportunity for (26) Individuals for 4 months? duration to address the needs of the covid19 affected poorest people to survive with cash for work at Fishpond Construction for trout Fish rearing. The recipient community is provided with a Trout Fishpond and 600 Trout Fish for rearing and business in progress to sustain their Livelihood.

The nearby communities have started construction of fish Pond and will get more cash in return from Fishpond. The wild trout species found in dare-peaj river is restored and the communities. The project has convinced Taliban authorities to ban fishing in the Kunar and Nooristan rivers.
