Rivers often function as conduits draining human generated waste from their water catchments. This is the case for solid waste including plastic pollution. Typically, solid waste gets accumulated in the river beds only to be purged in big pulses during the high flow events. The Drini river that forms the hydroelectric reservoir of Fierza drains areas of high population density in Kosovo and Northern Macedonia. High flow events associated with high precipitation, bring great amounts of plastic pollution that forms floating islands nearby the town of Kukes. This project will use a specialized skimming device mounted on a floating platform for cleaning an area of about 40 hectares in the vicinity of the town of Kukes
