The largest lake of the Balkan Peninsula, Shkodra Lake, is located on the northern shores of the Adriatic Sea. It?s the surface area is 390 sq. km, which makes it the largest among the lakes of the countries bordering with the Adriatic The lake has the status of RAMSAR site. Shkodra lake bleak Alburnus scoranza is endemic of Shkodra Lake and its tributaries, as well as Ohrid Lake. This species deposits eggs on sand, gravel, and rock bottoms at about 0.3 m depth. Due to natural variations on the level of the lake and the shallow depth of deposition, the spawning success varies greatly each year. In the past it has been a practice of moving egg covered rocks in deeper water in case the shore has receded due to lowering of water level. This project will revive a practice of the past involving cleaning of the rocks from epiphytes and moving them in case of water fluctuation.
