Income diversification in small mountain communities through cultivation of raspberry plants in small land plots
Income diversification in small mountain communities through cultivation of raspberry plants in small land plots
Fresh forest fruits, despite being a novelty for Albanian consumers, score high prices in local markets. There is a great unused potential for the cultivation of these fruits in Albania due to the fact that these plants do not compete for space with more traditionally cultivated plants in high quality agricultural lands. At the same time, the potential income generated by their cultivation in mountainous areas is much higher than the corn, potatoes and wheat that could be cultivated in the same plots. The project will plant a total of 1 hectare of raspberry equally distributed in individual plots of 15 local women in the village of Iballe in Albania.
