Reducing CO2 and saving finances by improving energy efficiency by using renewable energy sources for heating and water heating in the Center for NGOs Green Center in Struga
During the assessment and the preparation of the work plan for the Center for NGOs and the NGOs included in its work, it was concluded that one of the bigger problems was the heating of the offices used by the NGOs, as well as the heating of the common rooms (toilet, meeting room, kitchen etc.). Currently the heating of these rooms is on electricity (mostly inefficient heaters), which increases the operational costs of the NGOs working in the center. The increased operational costs during the winter months leads to reduced activities of the NGOs, thus reducing the work of the center, in order to reduce the consumption of electric energy.
In order for the NGOs to function properly it is necessary to find a way to reduce the costs for space heating and water heating, as well as to seize the opportunities to use solar energy as a renewable energy source.
With the increased public awareness, by the members of the Green Center, for the benefits of access to low carbon energy a decision was made to make an assessment for the possibilities of increasing the energy efficiency of the entire facility.

WHY do you want to implement this project; and what do you want to achieve? What is the project impact (consisted of several immediate project results)

Main objective: Reduction of the carbon footprint of the NGO center in Struga ? Green Center Struga through the installation of aheating system and a hot water system that use renewable energy sources (solar and biomass)

Specific objective 1. Reduction of the annual carbon dioxide emissions by 79% compared to 2020 by the NGO center in Struga ? Green Center Struga
Specific objective 2. Strengthen the capacities of 4 civil society organizations from the region
Specific objective 3. Raise public awareness of the impact of climate change on local level and the possibilities of using renewable energy sources (sun and biomass)

? Timely and correctly prepared and approved Project ? technical documentation Basic project for construction of biomass heating (pellets) and solar energy water heating system for the needs of the Green center Struga
? Created conditions for the installation of the pellet boiler and for the installation of the boiler for the solar energy water heating
? Procured and installed fully functioning system for central heating of the facilities with renewable energy source ? biomass- pellets and procured and installed solar energy water heating system for the toilets and kitchen of the building
? Obtained information on CO2 + finance savings after 6 months and 1 year by the work of the monitoring group
? A room has been equipped for the needs of NGO members of the Green Center Struga for online training and presentations
? All NGOs from the Center are actively involved in the implementation of the Project activities and contribute to the achievement of the results and indicators of the Project.
? Informed population about the importance of renewable energy sources and raised public awareness
? Raised public awareness of the impact of climate change and the possibilities of us using renewable energy sources (sun and biomass)
? Raised public awareness of the impact of climate change and the possibilities of us using renewable energy sources (sun and biomass)
? Promoted results of the implemented project activities
