Development of eco-tourism on the radiation contaminated territories for the biodiversity conservation on Polissya landscape
The main goal of the project is the development of eco-tourism on the protected territories that have undergone radiation pollution by arranging birdwatching locations, popularizing this type of a conscious and environmentally tolerant tourism, studying the biodiversity of Ukrainian Polissya and disseminating the GEF SGP best practices. The project core activities include the construction of five observational towers for birdwatching purposes on the territory of Chornobyl Biosphere Reserve and the arrangement of surrounding territories to develop eco-tourist potential of the exclusion zone, promote a conscious and environmentally friendly leisure, protect and study biodiversity. The project will conduct a massive information campaign to attract public attention, investors and donors. In addition, the project focuses on the protection of birds and their nests in nature. In order to preserve rare and endangered species of birds, the funds raised from birdwatching will be used for the construction of an adaptive temporarily shelter for birds in a difficult period for them - at the time of injury or in extreme cold.
