Save the planet (supporting green) and empower through scale up the current pad production
As like global scenario, menstruation remained as ignored and sidelined issue till 2014. Menstruation is not only matter of physical and emotional health but also matter of public and environmental health. The more than half of population is occupied by women where one third of the women menstruating every day. If they use the nonbiodegradable sanitary pad used by a woman in her reproductive life or seven years of average menstruating years.
She has to use about 150 KG sanitary pads. These pads took 200 -1000 years to decay. According to the PSI Nepal (2018), 7 million of pads are using in urban areas only and it has huge demand. Currently, government also started to distribute the sanitary pad in public schools means such pad will reach out even in the remotest villages. Thus, the plastic will be spreading across country which weighted as fifth rank for plastic related pollutant globally.
In this connection, a joint venture of f Radha Paudel Foundation and Active Women Forum for Justice Chitwan at Krishnapur 7, Bharatpur, Chitwan has been producing Jaibik Pad (plant based, disposal sanitary pad) and bio friendly re-usable cloth pad since 2014.
Both pads have high demands in both rural and urban areas including Kathmandu. At this moment, we have only a unit of machine for producing, 500/units are producing in a day by nine women employers.
Thus the project proposed to install automatic pad making machine to increase pad production, enhance dignified menstruation and empower women members.
