The Namhung Wetland Management for Sustainability of Thin village, Xayabouly
Thinh village is in the center of Xayabouly district, Xayabouly province. The main occupation of people here is doing the trading, agriculture, animal husbandry and fishing. Namhung river is the source of living for people in village. However, the people are fishing by use an extinct method which is leading to long-term effect. Number of poor families are still high, water shortage in dry season is a continuation, which causes to vegetables growing face the challenge, farmers are still using chemical fertilizer, herbicide in agricultural production, epidemic diseases is spreading on cattle and goat. Therefore, the project aims are to campaign the awareness on fishing and biodiversity conservation in Namhung, promoting the cultivation of organic vegetable, providing the trainings on how to make compost and EMs as well as the reduction of chemical use, construction water tank and irrigation pipe, and raising awareness to the community along the bank of river on waste management.
