Protection of Biodiversity in Jhangar Valley, Chakwal Dist.
The project is located in Jhangar valley Punjab. The duration of the project is one year and already various achievements have been accomplished.
The number and size of the protected areas have increases, the area under plant coverage has also increased, the range lands were improved in selected sites, local communities were organized, the awareness of locals regarding the natural resources of the area was enhanced, research reports on different aspects of the project are available and participation of local people on the plantation programme was ensured.
There were numerous difficulties, mainly the non-availability of sufficient funds to hire qualified and experienced people and a lack of long term funding commitments.
The activities still to be conducted include the maintenance of present and establishment of more protected areas, the establishment of nature clubs in more schools, the conduction of population census of Urial in selected habitats.
The project aims to protect community owned scrub forests and introduce alternatives for improving the livelihoods of the communities.
