Ngoliana Mangrove Restoration and Improving Sanitation Project
The project aims at addressing the problems experienced especially on the mangrove environment. The proposed plan is through the restoration of mangrove environment in the foreshores of Ngoliana community and at the same time improving sanitation facilities for residents of the Community. It is envisaged that change of behavior from use of mangroves would need awareness raising about the importance of mangroves and its connectivity to the marine environment as well as sanitation triggering exercises from health officers.
The general objectives of the project are to restore 2 hectares of mangrove ecosystems of Ngoliana Community of Malaita, and simultaneously improving sanitation for Ngoliana Community residents by end of 2020.
First Component: Restoration of mangrove ecosystems that people are now currently using for sanitation purposes.
The second component will focus on construction of improved sanitation facilities within the margins of the villages of Ngoliana, so that people use this sanitation facilities to refrain them from using mangroves as sources of defecation. Mangrove replanting will also be conducted and will be an activity that will be organize for women, men, youth and children on a monthly basis.
The expected outputs are; Restoration of mangrove ecosystems and Construction of improved sanitation facilities.
