Biodiversity Interventions to Protect Migrant and Native Birds at Vankalai Bird Sanctuary and Promote Tourism in Mannar District
Many wetland birds are under threat due to various causes including human activities, it has become a timely requirement to take measures to protect the migrant as well the native birds at the Vankalai Bird Sanctuary.
In connection to that, the NGO, Association for Women Empowerment (AWE) has come forward to address such conservation mechanisms by implementing specific activities in consultation with Wild Life Conservation Department and other respective government authorities. Briefly the project will be implemented at Vankalai and strip of land on either side of the causeway connecting to the island of Mannar to the mainland, those areas are more attractive to the migrant and native water birds.
