Promoting agro forestry by introducing mix vegetation and shady plantation along with coastal biodiversity conservation.
Pooneryn is the location selected as it is one of the areas affected by the civil war for three decades. This region consists of different types of natural ecosystems which are fragile. However, with the accelerated developmental activities susceptible to destruction and alteration of natural ecosystem into man-made ecosystems due to anthropogenic activities. Sand mining, road developmental activities, encroachment of wetlands for different activities and converting the natural land into paddy fields are the main activities cause the vulnerability.
The community in the selected region is directly relying on these resources for their livelihood. A proper planning and implementing a community-based conservation measure with an income generation for the local shall be one of the ideal ways to sort out the rapid depletion of the resources. The need analysis has been done with a site survey and engaged with the local. This has been done regularly over the past three years through different programmes by Save a Life. These discussions paved way to select the proposal to address the major concerns of the local community.
