Agriculture is the main livelihood in this area and 95% of the people of this area are farmers. Specially non availability of adequate water and proper water management system for their cultivations such as paddy lands and home garden are known to be crucial problems for them, Apart from that absence of alternative income sources can be identified as another major issue in the village as well as kallaru forest is partly bounded and Wilpatthu National park is situated very close to this villages hence Elephants comes to the village and destroyed their cultivations as a result of that some of people be faced very miserable position to fulfill their primary needs. Additionally poverty levels have risen so, continually people have to be depend on subsidies and this issue will directly affected the future generations as well.

Project Characteristics and Results
Notable Community Participation
According to our project scope we have selected two villages in Madhu divisional secretariat Division as direct beneficiaries of the project. Majority of youth in the village are unemployed and have a minimal educational background . The 30 year civil war and their poverty is the direct cause to this situation. Project activities have been planned to empower their way of life for Example ; Agro farming , Facilitation of self-employment, improving tourism potential in the village etc. 70% of the beneficiaries of this project will be youth and they will be participating in most of the project activities highlighted in the project proposal.
Gender Focus
Generally the percentage of women of these two villages are slightly higher due to casualties in the war. Considerable percentage of women have lost their husband or brother due to the war. Accordingly in this scenario women participation is slightly higher ,but project activities always encourage male participation as well through community awareness programmes.
