Access to flood irrigation in Ubr Lehsan, Tuban, Lahj Governorate
Delta Tuban is located on the Tuban wadi that carries flood water from the mountains towards the Sea in Aden. Wadi Tubn has two branches which are Wadi Sgheer (minor) and Wadi Kabeer (major). Ubr Lehasan is located on the Minor branch and convey water towards 285 ha. of agricultural land benefiting 220 farming families with 1100 inhabitants (560 females and 540 males).
The project will enable project to renovate the canal entrance to ensure flood flow through sufficiently to reach the target agriculture land. Since flood occurs only during summer, it was estimated that only 140ha of land are cultivated under flood irrigation for one season e.g. 150days.
The project will add value to agriculture and environment through enhancing soil fertility, Salinity washout, enhance land minerals? profile and subsidize grand water level.
The project will save the environment 1369 tins of CO2 a year. Further, it saves on the budget of farming families of US$ 729/family/year.

Flood is considered a blessing resource for farmers for its multiple values e.g. Save fuel, Enriches soil, wash out salinity and reduce labour. Access to flood can support whole crop cycle since farmers seed after flood and no irrigation is required till harvest. Project will allow an annual saving of US$ 729/family/year.
Capacity - Building Component
Grantee will be supported by a supervisor from the ministry of Agriculture and irrigation since they are mandated to look after this sector.
