Compost Academy
The aim of ?Compost Academy? project is to increase public awareness about the importance of composting, create small scale composting stations and engage locals in day-to-day activities that can help reduce emission of chemicals and create fertilizers with no chemicals. The overall objective is to increase public awareness about the proper organic waste management practices and create new business opportunities in composting for urban settlements. The Compost Academy project has three main components:
- Creating small composting workshops in 5 selected schools/educational institutions;
- Increase public awareness through promotional campaigns and installation of composting bins in several locations available for general public to compost their waste (in partnership with the local authorities of Yerevan and Armavir region);
- Piloting organic waste composting in 10 organizations (e.g. banks, food courts, etc.) and development of proposal to be provided to the government of Armenia.

Project Characteristics and Results
Policy Influence
Based on the results and findings, ISSD will develop a case study (know-hows) to be share with the municipality of Yerevan and other interested stakeholders (government, communities, etc.) that are interested in starting composting activities but have limited experience in launching similar activities or have doubts about its productivity and profitability.
Gender Focus
ISSD has always ensured equal opportunities for both men and women. Throughout the project the team will make sure to communicate all messages in a way to engage both men and women from beneficiary organizations. All beneficiaries will be offered opportunities to participate in trainings, public and other events.
