Simanjiro Pastoralist Adaptation and mitigation of the impacts of climate change project.
Simanjiro Pastoralist Adaptation and mitigation of the impacts of climate change project.
Context:

Increasing resource competition over the past few decades? greater pressure has been put on pastoralist grazing lands and water resources, as populations have increased and grazing land has been taken for cultivation, conservation areas, and state use. Pastoral livestock have been squeezed onto lands that are too small to be sustainable for pastoral production as pastoralists rely on freedom of movement to be able to manage the rangelands effectively. Key resource areas, for example dry-season grazing lands, are a target for agricultural use because of their productive potential. Once pastoralists lose these key resource areas, their whole strategy for dealing with drought is uncompromised. The great role is to put in place the strategies aiming to reduce human dangerous activities through awareness creation, advocacy, mobilization and empowerment of the most vulnerable communities to start with. Above all, in order to respond to the impacts of climate change and variability, it is clear that coping and adaptive strategies have to be implemented from the household, community, national and international levels. Loiborsoit A village in Emboreet ward in Simanjiro District is among the villages with the fertile soil and the agriculturist have been targeting this village, the village is also facing water problem for animal and human and the possible solution is to establish a charcoal dame in the village, we have already Identify the dam site, the damp upon completed it will be able to hold water throughout the year and it will feed about 1000 cattle and 2000 goats and sheep, this will benefit directly the animals in Loiborsot A, We hope the village will benefit by about 3000 livestocks will access the water indirectly to make a total of 6000 animals of 500 families throughout the year.

About the Proponent:

Pastoralist Economic & Social Advancement: - Is a Nongovernmental, non-political, pro-development organization established to promote development initiatives which with focus to improve the quality of life of Pastoralist communities in Tanzania. This organization was established to fight the increasing levels of poverty and vulnerability among women in the community. The organization will also work to bring gender equality and stop acts of violence against women which are still very high in the pastoralist communities. The organization will advocate for equality among boys and girls on issues of access to education and we will fight for the right of a girl child to get quality education. The organization will empower community to reduce the effects of climate change caused by environmental pollution, deforestation and overgrazing, We will reduce the use of fire wood by facilitating the community to use solar energy to solve the energy problem in the families which is still a big challenge, solar is the only viable solution to these communities since it is abundant in their areas, it is clean, it is mobile, it is cheap and affordable to the community. The organization will take part in the effort to fight Global pandemics like HIV/AIDS infections which are still high in these communities

The Organization is registered as a Non-Governmental Organization under the Non-Governmental Organizations Act, No. 24 of 2002. Our registration number is NGO/R/1251 PESA have long time experience and previously have been working with the name SPECIAL Development organization , we opted to change our name last year since the ??SP?? in our previous name stands for ?Simanjiro Pastoralist? but we want to expand to other district in northern Tanzania like Longido, Monduli , Same etc. Therefore last year when the Government decided to reregister all the NGOs therefore we use that opportunity to improve our name so we can grow to other Districts.

With the support from Care international and other international supporters we managed to implement successful project in land right, land use planning, water project etc, other donors support us includes Solar energy international, Akiba uhaki foundation, Tanzania forest fund ect

Project?s Primary Objective:

To enhance the capacities and strategies of the Pastoralist indigenous communities to adapt and mitigate the impact of climate change in 5 villages in Simanjiro area.
