TITIKAVEKA SOLID WASTE REMOVAL PILOT PROJECT
The scope of this proposed pilot project is within the geographical boundaries of the Titivakeka Puna (district or defined as a parliamentary electoral district) that includes the Tapaere (sub areas) of Tikioki, Akapuao Ngatapere, Turoa and Vaima?anga).
In the absence of a cohesive waste management strategy to address this issue, the disposal of solid waste is the financial burden of households with limited finances sometimes leading to inappropriate methods of disposal such as dumping in unused areas, by public roads or on someone else?s vacant property. The need to dispose of old vehicles is one part of a wider problem of the disposal of municipal waste in the oire whereby solid waste is commonly thrown in the open dumpsites, illegally disposed of in the sea or on unused land, on the side of the road or being burnt in piles in backyards.
