Project Characteristics and Results
Project sustainability
"During the implementation of the project, in cooperation with environmental organizations of GBAO, the NGO participated in lobbying for the creation of a reserve based on restored forests and plantations in the highland village of Khuf. Project team developed a plan with a local rural organization to create a dehkan farm based on the reserve. A preliminary plan was also developed for the distribution of forests and plantations among beneficiaries as a lease/ rent. This approach has effective results and allows long-term use of the restored arrays, and users will receive a steady income from them.
Through the project, we were able to rise the awareness of population, including local women, over types of illegal and non-traditional activities that had a negative impact on the state of the environment. The project contributed to the improvement of environmental education and the role of public control in remote places, where there is always an acute shortage of heterogeneous information. Special attention of the project was directed to the protection of the native habitat from environmental hazards.
All this becomes the foundation for the sustainable development of villages. Through sustainable development, local people gain greater access to daily opportunities, to a cleaner, safer and healthier society. 30 permanent jobs have appeared in the valley through the project.
More than 30,000 packages of organic berries and herbs will be delivered to restaurants, cafes, canteens in Khorog every year from the Khuf valley ."
