Project Characteristics and Results

Notable Community Participation

From the very beginning, students were actively involved in the project. They were present at all public hearings and discussions, took part in the cleanup of the territory and some construction works. Now they have a new educational space, where students can practice with their creative ideas and start-ups.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

Project has improved and landscaped most of the neglected territory of the Technical University. The student park will be maintained as a green oasis with minimal care. As a result, the microclimate of the surrounding area and its ecology will improve. The developed park will also positively impact students' and residents' quality of life.

Gender Focus

Project was led by women, women were directly involved in the project activates and gained new experience in planning and implementation , and the results /outcome of the project (new green territory) can equally benefit both men and women students teachers and local resident representative

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

The NGO Child & Environment created a Facebook page for the community and all stakeholders? for information sharing and updates. This page was posting information and updates at each stage of the project implementation. Information about the project will be published on the Saburtalo District Administration website as well. Word of Mouth among the students and organized events at the green gentrified spaces will be another part of communication strategy to promote public awareness about the project.

Capacity - Building Component

The project aimed to create a new educational capacity, closely observe the new environment and continuously analyze it. All project participants have learned how to conduct constructive dialogue and work together to build new urban space and improve the quality of life. Besides in frame of the project conference was organized "Outdoor Co-learning Space" that endorsed organization direction to create an open educational student space.

Project sustainability

Two uninhibited and rundown territories transformed into modern designed park zones, competently emerging in city scenery. The green gentrified zone will improve eco-environmental aspects in the area, increases the educational space of two faculties . The new park is competently emerging in city scenery. Around are residential buildings, a school, a medical center, a stadium. The park has become an eco-friendly zone for everyone.

Project Results

1. Two new landscaped areas (2400 sq. meters) are organically integrated into the urban landscape and harmonize with the ancient buildings of the University.
2. All old plants in the parks have been preserved and undergone anti-aging pruning. Some of the bushes have been replanted in accordance with the new project. Mature 30 trees (6 trees up to 4 meters high) and 230 bushes were planted on two territories, a lawn was laid out on an area of 860 square meters. An automatic irrigation system has been installed throughout the new parks and will maintain plant viability.
3. Student Park is a multifunctional educational space for student conferences, presentations, lectures, festivals, startups and other activities. We have created the outline of the student park. Now creative students can develop and transform different areas of the park
4. According to doctors and psychologists around the world, an open educational space helps to improve the mental and physical health of young people. This is especially necessary in the post-COVID period. Works in the park were completed in November 2022. 1000 students are just starting to explore the new space
5. The project partners were NGO Child and Environment, Saburtalo Administration, Technical University and AgromaxDecor Company. Two construction companies, a tree pruning and demolition company, landscapers, student volunteers and University staff had to constantly coordinate their activities to achieve the desired result. It is safe to say that a platform for dialogue between partners has been created and worked out.
