During all stages of project implementation (field visits, trainings, meetings with local population, surveys, etc.) school children and stutents were actively involved.
Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
Representatives of local community of the Adigeny Municipality will be actively involved in all stages of the project implementation, which means: meetings with local population and joint discussions on several issues, arrangement and planning of working polygons, planting of forest groves, cleaning of meadows and pastures from stones and gravel, reclamation of pastures, sowing of leguminous crops, working meetings-seminars and trainings, monitoring and evaluation of the project and other activities.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
The communication strategy is focused on ensuring the involvement of stakeholders and community organizations, developing relationships and promoting cooperation with government parties, donor organizations and the private sector and the media. Conducting trainings and meetings is an integral part of the project, therefore, raising awareness and necessary skills of the local population. A Facebook page will be created. A photo exhibition will be organized, booklets will be prepared and printed.
Gender Focus
The implementation of the project implies the maximum involvement of the local community in the processes to be implemented. The participation of the local community will be high, as the case is vitally important for them, such as reclamation of degraded pastures, increasing soil fertility and increasing productivity. The role of both women and men in solving this issue is very important. Their interests, time and other resources will be considered as much as possible in the planning of project activities.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
The project is focused on solving the environmental issues related to the detection and prevention of degraded pasture locations, the reclamation of local community pastures, which will improve the socio-economic status of the population as much as possible.
Inovative Financial Mechanisms
The results will be documented in both electronic and printed formats. Reclamation of degraded pastures as best practices and knowledge sharing on experiences will be provided to the general public.
Capacity - Building Component
There will be a positive impact on the local community's attitude and behavior on the awareness of the society's own role in solving environmental issues. Also promotion of the already proved or innovative approaches and technologies. Promotion of dialogue between the community and local government.
Project Results
? In the specific areas of the project, the extent of the impact on the environment was determined in the form of a map of the study area and visual material obtained by a drone.
? A group of warm shepherds was formed, who will further spread the knowledge and experience gained in the project and put it into practice on the mountain pastures.
? Restoration of degraded areas (pastures) and reduction/mitigation of negative consequences took place in high risk areas
? 100 meters of gabion-terrace with local material was arranged
? On the area of 10 ha, the works to support the natural restoration of the forest were carried out
? 5,000 m2 area was sown with asparagus to further increase and restore soil fertility.
? For the restoration of green cover on the summer pastures of Lelovani, for sustainable pasture rotation and protection, e-mail 0.5ha area planted with esparacet is fenced with a watchman. With the introduction of new technology, nomadic herders will be able to rotate pastures and make the use of pastures sustainable.
? The area of 0.5 ha was cleared of weeds. A precedent has been set for a control mechanism for the weedy plant "lobella poison". Warm herders possess some knowledge and experience for further sustainable weed management
? Under the influence of the project, the local government and the municipality's mayor's office will be actively involved in the sustainable management of summer pastures together with the pasture users.
? On the summer pasture of Lelovani, near the water reservoir, a 12 m2 shade shed with iron constructions was arranged for nomadic shepherds.
? In order to raise the awareness of the population, 8 trainings were held and 250 people improved their knowledge
? In order to inform the population and the general public about the project, an information booklet was prepared and distributed in the community, local government and Adigeni City Hall.
