The aim of the Planning Grant Project is to collect and prepare information on the state and status of almonds as an agricultural crop, the presence of local varieties and forms of almonds in areas of natural growth and cultivation. The information and experience collected within the framework of this planning project will be used to prepare and launch a large GEF SGP project on creation of a varietal form of collection-mother plantation of almonds on the territory of the Pistachio Research Experimental Station of the Research Institute of Forestry in the Galyaaral District, Djizzak Region on an area of 2.0 hectares. The results of the project will create conditions for the conservation with further distribution of the local almond variety. This approach will translate into demonstrating alternative land use practices for local communities other than traditional livestock farming and uncontrolled grazing, and as a way to improve their livelihoods through the creation of highly profitable orchards.
