Demonstration Project of Waste Management and Integrated Utilization in Nanzhuang Village, Cuicun Township, Changping District, Beijing
Demonstration Project of Waste Management and Integrated Utilization in Nanzhuang Village, Cuicun Township, Changping District, Beijing
Baseline information:
Since the implementation of the new Beijing Municipal Household Garbage Management Regulations in May 2020, the garbage classification work in Beijing has achieved some significant results. However, the waste management project in the target village, Nanzhuang Village, encounter the problem that residents have a lack of incentive to change their behaviour and hence the work of waste classification is highly dependent on the cleaning specialists for second-time sorting. Hence there is no proper waste management and mechanism established in the long term and have not achieved a sustainable effect on waste classification.
Nanzhuang Village, the site of the project, is located in an ecological conservation area. 25 factories in this area were closed by the local government in 2020. According to the Implementation Plan for Land Restoration in Changping District issued in August 2020, remediation measures should be taken to restore the vacated land to a state of arable activities.
Main problems:

2. There is no professional training session, publicity, or mobilization mechanism carried out by the local government.
3. The problem of cooperative disposing of kitchen waste and agricultural waste have not been solved. Plus, there is a lack of environmentally friendly composting technology.
4. As the younger generation of the village went out to work and left the elderly and children back in the village, it is hard to motivate residents to participate in local affairs includes the new waste management policy.
5. It is hard to boost the living environment and income of residents at the same time. Plus, the function of traditional agriculture is single.
