The project "From the Sucupira roots to the Cerrado sustainability" intends to combine the verb INTEGRATE / HARMONIZE / SYNERGIZE (1) community and traditional history with, (2) rural education at EFA Nossa Senhora MARIA ROSA MÍSTICA, considering that the challenge must be overcome generational and gender equality opportunities, and (3) with sustainable family production and maintenance of the Cerrado em Pé in the Médio Sertão Maranhense.

The communities demonstrate that they are willing to continue in search of resources for the continuation of the project. Several communities lost interest in projects due to the irresponsibility of many, where everything was promised and nothing was done, in the beginning this made it difficult even to sign the forms for fear of being deceived, the current project in execution brought back the spirit and confidence that it is still possible.

Policy Influence

The project articulated with the State via the State Agency for Agricultural Research and Rural Extension of Maranhão (AGERP) a technical cooperation agreement - ACT, to enable technical assistance and rural extension in the communities, we also requested an irrigation kit of 10,000 m ( ten thousand meters) to implement the demonstrative areas for the cultivation of vegetables. Forwarding of an official letter to the municipality requesting a truck to transport the coconut to groups of breakers.

Replication of project activities

The project represents a social change in the lives of women, whether young or old women who want recognition, appreciation of work and its tradition, and the Das Raízes de Sucupira project brings these expectations of recognition and belonging within the territories.

Capacity - Building Component

Training of 15 (fifteen) multiplier leaders in the area of Eco-efficient Agroforestry Systems; Training of 25 (twenty-five) Multiplier Leaders in the area of Preservation of Traditional Knowledge in the Control and Management of Fire in the Cerrado; Project Communication and Marketing System Production Workshop.

Project Results

The project enabled the mobilization and awareness of traditional families from local communities. The production and distribution of seedlings, training and training of leaders to act as multiplier agents of learning and monitoring through ATER services to families further strengthened the community, resulting in the creation of a shared management system and dissemination of project results. Meetings on integrated fire management in fire prevention and on the importance of TICCAs for traditional communities in the municipality further enriched the experience.
