HAWA Plantation & afforestation Project
Reforestation of hill slopes owned by community and raising of trees on farmlands to meet the fuelwood requirements.

Project goals or objectives are to prevent soil erosion and global warming by contributing towards self-efficiency of fuel wood production,

To conserve biological diversity by providing regenerated habitats for endangered species and enforcing strict bans on hunting and cutting of natural forests

To realize the above objectives, the following multi-purpose activities will be implemented, establishment of a 5 kanal mixed nursery, Slope plantation on 100 kanals barren land, appointment of a nursery & plantation supervisor to implement the project Deposit of endowment fund (Rs. 100,000) to partly meet ongoing expenses of the project. Pine forest plantation on pasture lands above the village.

Free-grazing control zones at pasture lands to be demarcated to ensure the regeneration of natural forests and 100% protection of natural forests.

The project will employ one permanent nursery/plantation supervisor. All administrative and logistical support of the project will be taken up by HAW A, which draws on community support on a voluntary self-help basis with the involvement of all 175 households of Hassanabad. After the initial stages of establishing the project until the nursery and plantation will be self-supporting through the sale of fruit saplings, Alfalfa, and potatoes, peas, the project will aim at 100% sustainability of its "above outlined activities for an indefinite period.

The envisioned results will be a considerable contribution towards fuel/timber wood self-sufficiency,
long-term regeneration of natural forests, providing habitats for endangered species, the establishment of a pine plantation for long-term, self-sustainable utilization for generations to come, and the protection of wildlife to maintain the balance of the fragile Himalayan eco-system.
