Nei Teuarereke community improved sanitation project
Nei Teuarereke community is located in Makin Island, a rural living environment on the outer island situated in the Northern part of Kiribati. Makin Island lies in Northern part of Kiribati with a population of 1,530 which is made up of 768 males and 762 females. The total number of households on Makin Island is 310 of which Nei Teuarereke community comprises 21 households.

The project will provide Nei Teuarereke community with an improved sanitation program in order to reduce pollution stress to the underground freshwater resources and allow members to access to a healthy environment and hygienic practices. The project will focus on installing household?s sanitation facilities, conduct health education programs and allow communities to operate solar powered pumps for feeding water to overhead tanks for flushing.

The GEF SGP support will result in mobilizing and fostering active community participation for an improved community sanitation programme. Community members will access to a better sanitation facility and safe water.
