NBNTC community is located in Makin Island, a rural living environment on the outer island situated in the Northern part of Kiribati. Makin Island lies in the northernmost of the Gilbert Islands with a population of 1,530 which is made up of 768 males and 762 females. The total number of households on Makin Island is 310 of which NBNTC community comprises 22 households.

The project will provide NBNTC community with an improved sanitation program in order to reduce pollution stress to the underground freshwater resources and allow members to access to a healthy environment and hygienic practices. The project will focus on installing household?s sanitation facilities, conduct health education programs and allow communities to operate solar powered pumps for feeding water to overhead tanks for flushing.

The GEF SGP support will result in mobilizing and fostering active community participation for an improved community sanitation programme which is the priority focus of the NBNTC. Community members will access to a better sanitation facility and safe water.
