Arosi Women and Soils Improvement Project
Project will cover 30 villages in West Makira?s Ward 5 & 6 and will involve women and girls in areas on capacity building and practical field work in areas of forest conservation, soil improvement techniques, and business-oriented marketing techniques.
Overall goal is to reduce clearance of virgin forests for gardens and enable women to apply compost and new farming methods.
Project Components:
1. Indoor theoretical classes on importance of forests and soil improvement methods, soil identification, farming methods
2. On hand training / demonstration on soil improvement methods, soil identification, farming methods, crop nurturing, and pest control
3. Building sustainable community-based enterprise
Expected Outputs:
1) improved crop yields,
2) minimal forest destruction.
3) improved knowledge about business enterprise
