Bishop Patteson Koa Hill Youths Association Anti-Flooding and Waste management Project

The project is exclusively about planting of yellow bamboo trees to mitigate land degradation along the Mataniko Riverbank, and awareness raising in the communities to educate and train them on waste management and recycling of rubbish.

General Objective: To mitigate degradation of the Mataniko Riverbanks during floods and to reduce pollution of the Mataniko River by people residing close to the river.

Specific Objectives:
- To plant yellow bamboo trees along the Mataniko Riverbanks
- To conduct awareness on disaster readiness and risk management
- To conduct awareness and training on waste management and recycling of rubbish

Project components are;

? conducting training/workshops & awareness on cleaner and healthy environment
? planting of yellow bamboo trees

If implemented successfully, the yellow bamboo trees will help to mitigate land degradation and the program on waste management will help to control pollution in the river to improve the water quality for aquatic animals and to make the river look much cleaner and attractive.

Young people are managing this project.
