Rural Initiatives for Community Empowerment (RICE
Rural Initiatives for Community Empowerment (RICE
, being Rural Initiatives for Community Empowerment (RICE). It can be recalled that before the Liberian Civil War which lasted for approximately a decade plus, almost all the food items consumed in Liberia were produced in the Country. During that time, the inhabitants of Liberia were well nourished and agriculture served as a major revenue generating activities which helped sustained the booming of the economy of the country at that time. Unfortunately, during the Liberian Civil War, the entire economy was ruined including the very Agricultural Sector of Liberia. Since that time and up till now the Agricultural Sector has not actually recovered. Due to this, most of the citizens of Liberia especially those in the rural areas are undernourished and more than 85 percent of the country?s population is fed through imported commodities including the nation?s staple food (rice) which is not easily affordable by the common people because of the high cost imposed on food items and other materials imported into the country. The main goal of this project is to sustain the production of food through effective agriculture in Todee; rural Montserrado. The project intends to increase the production of food through enhancing the knowledge capacities of farmers on production, procuring of tools, seeds and machines that will enhance huge productions for children, youths, women and elders in Todee and Liberia at large. The project will also involve animal husbandry.
