The project aims to enable the community of Matahau to carry out and implement sustainable ways of organic farming of their root crops and native plant species that are beneficial to the use of the community.

The use of POPs is increasing as the climate is changing and may cause a low yield and growth from the community plantations. The community of Matahau is situated in the rural area of Tongatapu which is the main island, and it is not directly connected to the groundwater grid that the urban areas are supplied with. Therefore, there is a shortage of water availability to the community when using the current water system that has been installed. This influences the local farmers to use chemical fertilizers to keep their farming products alive, not knowing that it has a long-term effect on the soil's capacity to store natural nutrients.

Water is therefore a valuable resource for the livelihoods of the community in their daily use. By providing an additional source of water to meet the daily water use of the community members and to maintain their biodiversity through organic methods of farming.
