Developing and Disseminating Local Innovations in Agroecology for Broader Adoption Amongst Small Holder Farmers in Northern Ghana (AgroEcoInnovation Project)
The primary objective of this project is to disseminate tested farmer-led innovations, develop and scale up successful community driven unique agro-ecology, and organic farming initiatives(innovations) to improve food, nutrition and income security of small holder farmer households
Specific objectives of the proposed project
? To identify and develop local farmer led innovations relating to climate-smart agriculture, and agroecological Farming among small holder farmers
? To upscale the fully developed local farmers innovations, and disseminate for broader adoption amongst small holder farmers through Farmer led trainings and support
? To strengthen community capacity to build networks and form alliances that will promote learning, idea sharing, awareness raising, improve partnership, communication, coordination and collaboration in responding to climate change problems, biodiversity loss, and land degradation within northern Ghana landscape.

Project Output 1:
At least 3 local farmer led innovations relating to climate-smart agriculture, and agroecological farming identified and developed .
Planned Activities to achieve Project Output 1:
1.1. Identify farmer-led/local agroecology innovation. Undertaken capacity building training on methods and processes of carrying out smart climate agricultural practices (compost manure development)
1.2. Document and develop innovations packages (At least 3 farmer-led innovations Documented and Developed for dissemination)? using participatory approach
1.3. Train farmers in fully developed innovations i. e. farmer-led Innovation 1 Livestock Feed Preparation (At least 100 farmers Trained in fully developed farmer led innovation (livestock feed)..
1.4. Train at least 100 farmers on methods and processes of livestock management
1.5. Train farmers in fully developed innovations i e farmer-led Innovation 2 broad spectrum (multi-purpose) organic pesticides preparations.
1.6. Build capacity of farmers on methods and processes of composting and farm animal manure processing and application, targeting and benefiting smallholder women and youth farmers in project beneficiary communities.
Output 2:
Upscale the fully developed local farmers innovations, and disseminate for broader adoption amongst small holder farmers through Farmer led trainings and support.
2.1. Train farmers in fully developed innovations I e farmer-led Innovation 2 broad spectrum (multi-purpose) organic pesticides preparations. The innovator would be supported with the entire necessary tool to fully come out with his content. Through participatory approach, this activity will work with the innovator, project team and other development scientist to develop his innovation for application. The activity will include trails, laboratory testing, packaging and distribution.
2.2. Capacity building training on methods and processes of composting and farm animal manure processing and application, targeting and benefiting smallholder women and youth farmers in project beneficiary communities.
2.3. Train farmers in fully developed innovations I e farmer-led Innovation 3 innovative bee hives and honey production technology. With the support bee-keeping experts, the innovator will be assisted to fully develop, test and come out with specific design and dimensions fit for our rural communities for application
2.4. Build Capacity and skills enhancement on methods and processes of bee keeping and honey harvesting, targeting, and benefitting smallholder women and youth farmers in project beneficiary communities
2.5. Support farmers to practice fully developed 3 innovations. this activity will provide needed farming implements and supports to the trained farmers to enable them put their skills into practice
Output 3:
Community networks and alliances formed and strengthened to promote learning, idea sharing, awareness raising, improve partnership, communication, coordination and collaboration in responding to climate change problems, biodiversity loss, and land degradation within northern Ghana landscape.

Planned Activities to achieve Project Output 3:
3.1. Organize farmer change learning visits to create alliance and build strong farmer networks

3.2. capacity building training on methods and processes of enhancing alternative livelihood enhancement, income generation, and business development activities through utilizing the economic potentials of the agro-ecology resources and agro-farming industry, targeting and benefiting smallholder women and youth farmers in project beneficiary communities
