Pramouy Commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat province
The project is aiming at Improving implementation of innovative ideas in accessing to clean and safe water by focus on promoting the use of clean/renewable energy in Stung Thmei village, Pramouy Commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat province. Community Protected Area (CPA) in Stung Thmei village consists of 1516 families located in the Phnom Samkos Wildlife Sanctuary, which is nearby the Central Cardamom Mountains National Park, with estimated 95% of the total population has relied on water from the stream as the main source of water supply with poor quality and water scarcity in the dry season. As consequence, there are health problems and economic issues observed. The project aims to enhance the effectiveness of protection and conservation in Stung Thmei CPA by providing safe water for those living along the main road and providing rainwater harvesting facilities to those families who live far away from the main road. To achieve the objectives, the project will implement the below interventions: i) to install the piped water system using solar energy pumping system for 70 families in household?s water tap connection and to increase access to rainwater harvesting risk management system for 50 vulnerable families with rainwater tank system in which could address water scarcity issue in particular for the vulnerable householders; ii) To increase community livelihood, the project will provide training workshops on agricultural innovations for the established number of community groups in charge of in-home gardening and chicken raising; iii) Organize a water user committee to manage both Water systems and some of the revenue from water user fees will be used for Stung Thmei CPA conservation and protection; iv) The experiences resulting from the implementation of the project will be documented as a Video Story and case study to share with stakeholders both inside and outside the community through project completion workshop.
