Project Characteristics and Results

Notable Community Participation

All women organizations in the country also have young women included in their organizations. Therefore, female youths are also involved in the project as they are also members of the Fafine Niutao Organization.

Gender Focus

The assistance from the community involved the separation of tasks to each of the different genders. Male members will be assisting in the installment of the overhead water tanks whilst female members will be providing food to feed the workers (male members).

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples

The indigenous people involved in the project are the community of Niutao as the project will be implemented on the island of Niutao. The inclusion of them will be the providence of all the overhead tanks to each of the households on the island of Niutao.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

The island community of Niutao will be assisting Fafine Niutao in installing the overhead water tanks.

Inovative Financial Mechanisms

The key idea of the project is to keep the livelihood of the Niutao women at a much better level. That is, it intends to get the women not to fetch water from using buckets, and now they will get the water right into the kitchen (on sinks) and bathrooms, etc.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

The public will be made aware through talking to the Tuvalu media. The Tuvalu Media will then extend the awareness to the general public - this is the cheapest method that the community can use that will get the project's visibility to the public.

Project sustainability

The sustainability of the project is in the hands of the Fafine Niutao i Niutao.

Capacity - Building Component

Their capacity building will be on how the overhead tanks could be maintained and sustained in the long run.

There is also no intention for the organization to upscale the project under non-GEF funding.

There is no intention for the project to produce policy impact. The produce would only wish to produce positive impacts to the livelihood of the Niutao women on the island.

Yes, the project can be replicated by other organization but have not yet replicated as far as I know.
