Erdek Marine and Coastal Species Conservation
The application area of the project is the ERDEK GULF, which is located between the Cape of Ilhanlar village of Ilhanlar in the Kapidag peninsula, which includes the district of Erdek and 22 villages and 6 districts, and the Cape of Karabiga village of Karabiga in the Biga district of Çanakkale.
The subject of our project; In the Gulf of Erdek (40°24'11" North - 27°47'46"East /40.403052 latitude ? 27.796098 longitude) in an area of approximately 614.77 km², the citizens, who make their living by coastal fishing, benefit from international For more effective protection of Pinna (Pinna nobilis), Seagrass (Posidonia oceanica), Seahorse (Hippocampus hippocampus), Sea Eggplant (Holothuroia sanctori / mammata) and other disappearing sea creatures, which are also on the conservation list, for sustainable fishing; It will support the increase of the population and species diversity of sea creatures, especially posidonia oceanica, by developing joint projects with local governments to prepare the basis for conservation and management plans by marking the points and depths of their existence on the coordinate system and regional map with the help of artificial reefs, and by developing joint projects with local governments for the cleaning of ghost nets in the area. aims to increase social awareness.
With this project, the awareness of coastal fisheries will increase in terms of protecting the marine species population and increasing the economic value of species diversity and marine species in the area. Our project activities are to determine the location and population density of the important sea creatures that we have chosen as indicators of sea cleanliness and biological diversity, to improve the existing reefs and vaults to improve and protect their current conditions, to declare Erdek Bay a protected sea area and to support the preparation of a local action and management plan.
Thus, the protected area will be able to continue to live in its natural environment by being protected from activities that will cause area destruction. In addition, during this project, the situation will be observed in approximately 540 artificial reefs that have been dumped in the gulf region before.
In addition, bio-assessment studies of the marine ecosystem will be initiated in Erdek Bay with the cooperation of the public-NGO.
