The project plans to establish a model vegetable garden to Improve food security, nutrition, economic opportunities and resilience of smallholder women farmers to climate change in Wallan Village. The village located within Baobolong protected area were exposed to some environmental challenges such as high salt intrusion, deforestation and loss of fodder for livestock that affect their livelihood. This project will enable especially women learn and adopt vegetable production to improve their livelihood and adopt other environmental management practices being promoted by Parks and Wildlife Department and other departments within Baobolong area.

The objectives are:

Project Activities

The following are the main planned activities, and where there should be sub activities, as specified in the approved work plan and budget.

1. Procure chainlink wires and poles and establish good fence for 1 hectare garden, plant life fencing around the garden;
2. Dig a borehole installed with solar pumping system, and construct reservoirs and distribution network to facilitate irrigation in the garden;
3. Provision of new/improved inputs, tools and modern technologies including high-quality, climate-resilient seeds both for the rainy and dry season;
4. Review existing training modules and guidelines on agronomic practices, CSA and rainy season production for improvement existing modules and guidelines on agronomic practices, CSA and rainy season production;
5. Conduct farmer trainings (modular progressive trainings) on modern CSA agronomic and agro-ecological technologies
6. Establishment of a producer cooperative ?Savings and Internal Lending in the Communities;
7. Training on Market study and analysis;
8. Group production plan development;
9. Group business plan development;
10. Development and mentoring support;
11. Orientate and Support farmers to produce in line with market demand;
12. Training of women in advocacy and leadership;
13. Monitoring and Evaluation (Mid-term review and final review and reporting)
