The abusive use of firewood for smoking fish has reduced in a qualitative way, because before the introduction of an ice factory in these communities, the only means of preserving fish was smoking, but with the introduction of this factory, the approximately 15 tons of fish caught per year ( through ecologically sustainable fishing kits provided by the project) began to be conserved without messing with forest essentials (firewood for smoking) as well as having a positive impact on women's health because they no longer need to be exposed to smoke and fire. Still ice production generates monthly revenue around 2060 USD. Revenue from fish is approximately 13430 USD. Through the creation of a local steering committee for the project and reinforcement of technical capacity in the field of project performance and responsible community engagement. These actions benefited 123 people, including 100 women and 23 men fishermen, in the communities of Empada.
